Starting a Game 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,

I have just installed the game and tried to play it, but..

When I click new game, it prompts me to enter player name or create new one

How do I proceed past this point?

If I type a name and hit enter it clears what i'v typed

If I type a name then click create new player it clears what i'v typed

when the name is being cleared it does it in a kind of fast scrolling motion

The proceed button is never active

I have tried using different video options (resolutions / with/without OGL2.0 etc but nothing helps me get past this point!!

Help!

Mark

Hi Mark,

it seems that Rollick is not able to create the savegame file. Please check that you have write access to the folder %APPDATA%/Gamecentric/Rollick, where %APPDATA% is "C:/Documents and Settings/Username/Application Data" on Windows XP and "C:/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming" on Windows Vista. That folder should have been created automatically by Rollick the first time it is run; apparently something has gone wrong.

HTH,

Ganesh

PS: if you are not using an English version of Windows XP, the name "Application Data" will need to be translated in your language, for example it would be "Dati Applicazione" in Italian.

Seems that if you install the game to a directory _other_ than suggested by the installer you get this problem.

That sounds very strange to me. I designed Rollick so that it should run from whatever directory it has been installed into. Could you please post which operating system you are using, so that I may run specific tests for this?

I first installed the game on win2k, to a directory E:/games/rollick. I tried to manually create the folder 'GamecentricRollick' as suggested in the earlier post but to no avail. Booted to XP, installed the game using defaults in the installer and after creating player I could start the game as expected. Back to win2k for verification, uninstalled rollick, and then reinstalled it with defaults and everything worked ok.

I just realized that the forum software is stripping all the backslashes from the pathnames... The path had to be "C:/Documents and Settings/Username/Application Data/Gamecentric/Rollick". I edited the previous post by using forward slashes.

Apparently the WinNT installation was not able to create such folder. When you installed under WinXP the folder was properly created and then the WinNT started working too because the folder had already been present. I should run more tests on WinNT, then. Thanks for the information.

Anyway, I am pretty sure that under WinXP and Vista the installation directory does not affect the execution of the game.
